Ethnic Tradition: How do Guangxi's Dong People Send Bride Away
Sending away the bride in the traditional Dong manner is one of the grandest rites of passage for the Dong ethnic people. On the day, the bride is accompanied by two senior men in the family who represent the authority and dignity of the bride's family. A group of bridesmaids, friends and families will also company the bride to the bridegroom's home.
The bridegroom's families are required to prepare pork, fish, duck, glutinous rice cakes, sticky rice, and rice wine in advance, as gifts for the bride and her entourage when the bride returns to her mother's home on the third day of the wedding.
