The Cultural Relics Bureau of Liuzhou confirmed the discovery of a fifth tomb of “Eight Talents” in Yanghe New District, Liuzhou, on May 29.
The tomb of She Mianxue, who ranks second among the Eight Talents in the Ming Dynasty, was found accidentally by his descendants while clearing up the tomb of his father She Chongfeng, according to a Guangxi News report.
With the discovery of the tomb, epitaphs, gold coins, silver coins, gold hairpins, jade clasps and some remains were unearthed. The skull of She Mianxue remained intact under the humid, rainy climate of Ling Nan area for more than 500 years. The excavations from the tomb are helpful for research, said the local cultural relics department.
So far, five tombs of “Eight Talents” have been located. The four tombs found previously are all cultural relic preservation units, with Zhang Chong Tomb protected at autonomous regional level and the tombs of Xu Yangzheng, She Li, Dai Qin listed under city protection. The She clan hopes She Mianxue Tomb will also be enlisted as a relic protection unit in the future.
