Liuzhou chosen as first station for 'Guangxi Best Cuisine'

Liuzhou was chosen as the first station of the "Guangxi Best Cuisine" activity. The launch ceremony of the activity was held in the square of the Liuzhou Cuisine Museum on Oct 23.

Guangxi's Famous Cuisine, Guangxi's Noted Snacks, Guangxi's Special Feast and Nanning Shui Street's Food showcased their delicious foods in the activity. Four local rice noodle brands – Liuzhou's Snail Rice Noodle, Guilin's Pot-stewed Rice Noodle, Nanning's Raw Rice Noodle and Nanning's Old Friend Rice Noodle – demonstrated and cooked rice noodles on the spot. A total of 10 famous chefs were selected by the Guangxi Cooking and Catering Association to show their cooking skills in the activity.

The delicious dishes displayed at the launch ceremony attracted great attention from visitors and local residents.

Guangxi cuisine has a long standing history. It mainly consists of northern Guangxi cuisine, southeastern Guangxi cuisine, coastal cuisine and ethnic groups' special cuisines. Since China's reform and opening up, Guangxi has striven to develop its local catering industry and has achieved great progress.

According to a representative of the Guangxi Cooking and Catering Association, the fact that Liuzhou is in the center of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and has a long history as well as a unique geographical climate, so the “Guangxi Best Cuisine” activity has selected Liuzhou as the first stop. Liuzhou cuisine is an indispensable part of Guangxi cuisine. It not only has the characteristics of Guangxi cuisine, but also owns its local features. Liuzhou cuisine has gained great popularity in recent years. The Liuzhou government has also paid great attention to improving the development of Liuzhou cuisine.

The department of commerce in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has given notice of "improving the development of catering brands into star hotels" to lodging and catering industries in Guangxi to boost the local economy and build local brands. It has rated 34 Guangxi Demonstration Restaurants, 64 Guangxi Cuisine Chefs and 60 Guangxi Famous Dishes from 2011 to 2013.
